Bill MosbyBill’s winemaking interests began during his early college wrestling days in Oregon almost 50 years ago. "I fermented anything I could get my hands on," says Mosby. "I was — and still am — intrigued by the whole process." When Bill talks about his early winemaking days, he does so with an air of excitement. "As much science as we know today — technology and all that — we have barely scratched the surface when it comes to understanding the alchemic nature of wine," he explains. While Mosby's specialty is the growing and vinification of fine Italian varietal wines, he also makes award-winning grappa, wild plum and raspberry distillatos. His experienced palate and careful, ongoing search for interesting new varietals have resulted in vintage after vintage of award-winning Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Pinot Grigio and more. And then there’s his latest addition, Dolcetto — the everyday wine of Piemonte.
When Bill and Jeri purchased the old de la Vega land in the early 1970s, the first thing Bill did was plant vines. "Noah did that," he says quietly. "First thing he did. Plant a vineyard." Among those early Mosby wines was Gewürztraminer, Jeri’s favorite. "It’s still my favorite," says Jeri. "I’m going to miss having it in the tasting room."

Dominick and Gloria Chirichillo’s choice of name for their winery is a reflection of their commitment to their Italian heritage and the tradition of family winemaking. In 1955 in New York, Dominick who is called Domenico in Italian was introduced to these traditions by his Nonno (grandfather), Domenico Giovinazzo. In the basement of their home was a wine press that Nonno showed Dominick; passing down from one generation to another the love of handcrafting wine. Dominick’s passion for winemaking took him from amateur competitions, while he lived on the East Coast, to commercial status after moving to Northern California. Moving to California has enabled Dominick to choose his grapes hands-on from selected vineyards in Napa Valley, Sonoma’s Central Coast, Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley, Amador County and the Lodi District. Not to mention he is a member of the Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Association, where he sources Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. As of fall 2010, the wines of Domenico have won 300 Medals for wines produced from these various regions!
Prior to opening Domenico Wines, Dominick and Gloria’s passion for the wine business was shared with others on both the East and West Coasts through Bacchus Winemaking Club. As one of Northern California's wine pioneers, the Guglielmo family has been producing award-winning wines in the Santa Clara Valley since 1925 - continuing a winemaking tradition passed down for generations.
Born in 1883 near Asti in Italy's Piedmonte region, family patriarch, Emilio Guglielmo, left his homeland when he was 25 years old and traveled to America - finally arriving in San Francisco in 1910. It was there he began producing wine for friends and neighbors in the basement of his Excelsior District home in San Francisco. Knowing the era of prohibition would soon come to an end, Emilio invested in the future by purchasing vineyard land in the agriculturally rich Santa Clara Valley near Morgan Hill, about 80 miles south of San Francisco. The winery, Emilio Guglielmo Winery, was founded in 1925.
In 1944, the winery was passed down to Emilio's son, George W. Guglielmo and his wife Madeline upon George W.'s return from World War II. Working together, the couple expanded the winery's estate vineyards and distribution channels. Later in 1969, George W. and his son, George E., began implementing many new ideas into the family business. This period saw an introduction of new refrigerated stainless steel fermentation tanks and small oak cooperage, as well as the production of the winery's first premium varietal wine - a 1969 estate-bottled Petite Sirah.
Today, third generation brothers George E., Gene and Gary keep the family tradition alive by producing award-winning premium varietal wines from more than 100 acres of Santa Clara Valley estate vineyards - as well as wines from other premium wine growing regions within California
