QUINTA DA PEDRA ALTA (DOURO)
Quinta da Pedra Alta, situated in one of the most remote places in the beautiful Demarcated Region of the Douro, it has come to produce abundant wines for more than 60 years.
Since the 1940s, The Quinta da Pedra Alta and the Quinta da Cruz, were regarded as some of the highest-producing farms of opulent wines in the Douro. At that time, António Leal and Maria da Conceição Pinto, grandparents of the current owner Jorge Eduardo Branco Pinto Leal, were at the helm. There is still a house on the farm that used to be called the "MUDA" (change), since it was the place used to change the horses on long journeys from the south or north. This provides an overview of the importance of the farms and their locations.
For many years, the farm's productions were focused on fortified wine, which was then sold to merchants, as well as small quantities of red and white for individual consumption.
Nowadays, the farms take up an area of 90 ha of land and the vineyards are still regarded with respect, receiving tender care by the people working there. A vineyard modernization program began in 1995, and in 2001, they began the construction of a wine cellar, as well as the production of DOC wines and regional Douro wines, both red and white.
Quinta possesses a cellar equipped with the most modern technology, a bottling line, diverse spaces dedicated to vinification methods, as well as an area to receive visits and test wines.
The winery initiated the bottling of its wines DOC's Douro Tintos and Brancos, which already received awards (gold medals, silver and bronze) in national and international competitions. The wine presents extraordinary qualities, only possible due to the commitment and investment in reaching the highest standards.
Joining tradition with the newest techniques, the Quinta currently has the most modern technology and vinification methods from the traditional Douro grapes: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Sousão and Vinhas Velhas in the red wines, and Malvasia Fina, Gouveio, Rabigato, Viosinho and Fernão Pires in the white wines.
